Mit dem Befehl „whois“ kann man auf der Kommandozeile nähere Informationen zu einer Domain abfragen. Für de-Domains z. B. kann man wegen DSGVO jetzt nicht mehr einfach per whois den  Eigentümer der Domain ermitteln. Das geht nur noch – eingeschränkt und etwas komplizierter – über die DENIC.

Beispiel für eine whois-Abfrage der Domain google.com:
